The Weekend of BBQ

This weekend was the first nice weekend in Chicago this year which meant a lot of BBQing went down. Friday, after Stacey's thing, I headed over to Nick's which turned into a lot of old friends getting together. Poker started around 11 or so and I have to say that I was shit talking with the best of 'em but didn't have a thing to back it up with. I guess that's what made it so fun. I paid to play, even though I know I was going to lose but it's so funny to see some of these guys take it so seriously. You know, I believe that there is some skill in poker, however, a $20 buy-in is going to be hard to make anyone blink an eye and give away a their hand on a tell. But some of these guys play like it's the World Series of Poker which is a little pathetic. I was just there to ruffle some feathers, drink some cocktails and have a good time. I would say I accomplished all of those.

I tried calling A for her bday a couple times and I texted her that evening. I even went to the extent of when I got home to look at an old phone bill to grab her sisters number so I could try one last time to reach her in person on her bday. However, I let it ring a few times and hung up. I knew it wasn't the best idea since they were probably asleep and she probably didn't care if she didn't call me back earlier. I think I was in more disbelief that she didn't call me back on her bday. Not even a return text. That one stung a little bit.

I didn't sleep all that well on Friday and got up around 9 on Sat morning after going to bed at around 5 the night before. Was at Niko's by 11:30 to bbq some more before he went skydiving that day. Afterwards, Jules and Becca came over and Jules let me terrorize the neighborhood in her new Z4. That was a lot of fun. Then we went to Chris' to bbq more and hung out until around midnight. It was low key and a lot of fun, we just shot stories back and forth. I made Chris tell the Big Chris story. Becca actually had an ex-bf who kidnapped her dog and registered it in his name so she would have no legal right to get it back. That's a very brief synopsis but that was basically the punch line. Can you believe that? He kidnapped the dog b/c she loved the dog more than him and that was the only way he could think of that would really hurt her. Man, there are some psychos out there. Just to help her complex about the whole issue, we made fun of her for going out with a guy like that which I'm sure wasn't all that appreciated by Becca. My neighbors across the way were having a party and wanted me to come over when I got home. I didn't go even though these girls asked if they could hit my hottub later but I politefully declined. I was tired.

Sunday just ended up with me running around town and running into my brother on the street. We ran around for awhile and then rented some movies and bought some steaks to bbq for later. Picks were slim so we ended up renting Anchorman and Ladder 49. Don't know what to say about them just that my life is no better now that I've seen them.

Hit the gym after work, get ready for HC tomorrow at 9.
