Late night, rough start
I'm never going to drink again... Jesus, how many times has that statement been said around the world. Doesn't matter who you are or where you're from, everyone can agree on one thing... hangovers suck! So who did I think I was last night? Last time I checked I wasn't a rock star, but I sure partied like one last night. Ceres (the bar in the Board of Trade) = evil. And I mean evil in its purest form. What more can you expect from a place that's clientele is primarily the top 1/2% of the greediest and some of the most dispicable men on earth, otherwise known as a trader. God, why do they have to pour those drinks so stiff? Holy shit, I think I'm going to puke just thinking about it. Met some really interesting people last night. Lets see, there was...
1. Garrett - an outspoken trader who's bigger than life / 36 yrs old, married - loves to flirt with the ladies but means no harm / good guy who loves to have a good time / poor guy couldn't stop sweating the whole night but I think that might have to do something with all the blow he might have been doing.
2. "Bones" - I think he was a tax accountant, but a pretty big one at that / highly intelligent but was hard to understand, could've been the music / dropped out of UofI when he was 19 / huge Dead Head / in early 70s, once had two golf balls of coke brought for him from Miami while the Stones did an acoustic set in his buddy's apartment - can you believe that shit?
3. Mary Beth - worked for a bank I wasn't too familiar with / she was older and was shown a lot of respect by the guys she was with (Garrett and Bones included in that group) / when asked if she had some kind of regulatory authority at the bank, she responded by saying "Eric, I am the bank". Then she turned to some goofy, drunk guy next to her and said "Joe, who am I?". Joe responds "You're the bank". I guess this chick can just go on the trading floor and anyone who's anyone knows who she is -- what a badass.
4. Wendy - 30yrs old, just going through a divorce / from what I could pick up, she wasn't entirely comfortable talking about it / good looking but naive - I think she has lost a lot of self confidence due to her marriage situation, you can pick that up in the tone of her voice / she'll need to be careful if she's going to hang out at those trader places, those guys will eat her up and spit her out / Nick did let her hit him in the face (closed fist) a couple times to let it all go -- I can't really explain it but sometimes the guy is a mastermind -- the way he explained why she should do it made so much sense -- it was an in-depth you-just-need-to-let-yourself-go kind of talk and it was amazing / he explained it later that he's got this whole new outlook on life in general after the incident
5. The bartender (some name I can't remember) - she was hot (great smile, there was something genuine about her smile that took me by surprise) but had the look I think of being a little worn down by the industry scene / I didn't talk to her until the end of the night but she came across more friendly than I thought she would be / we were talking about one girl who was sitting next to me who was all tatted up, we came to the conclusion that she reminded us of Charlize Theoron from Monster, not so much in her looks, but her mannerisms and the way she talked / For some reason, while I was talking to her, I remember wondering what her childhood was like -- yeah, I don't get it either, it just sort of popped into my mind
6. Maquise - an Asian mix girl I met a Moda, I was busy playing wingman for Nick. Typically this situation doesn't work out b/c the friend is usually not that cool. Actually, this chick was way cool and I had a fun time talking to her. Later, she was making out with some chotch at the bar, wow, I mean the guy was not good looking at all. She probably got bored with me b/c I wasn't trying to get on her, oh well. At the end of the night, I lost Nick and went to say goodbye those girls, I went to give the girl that Nick was talking to a kiss on the cheek and I was so drunk that I completely missed and kissed her ear... that didn't go over too well. She did the recoil in horror thing and I was just completely dumbfounded b/c at that point I finally realized how fucked I was going to be come the next morning. She asked what was I doing and I just stared b/c I couldn't believe that just happened... jeez, I felt like such an idiot. So in that sobering moment I made a b-line for the exit, lucky Nick was already outside ready to go home. I didn't even see him go by me to get to the exit, whatever.
I don't know, overall the night was ok, although, I spent too much money after being good for so long. I guess the lesson here is that I can only be so good for so long. Well, I gots to grab some grub now and make it through the rest of this heinous day.
